NarrativeGordon Bennett, a member of "B" Battery, 175th Field Artillery Battalion, 34th Infantry Division. He enlisted in the National Guard, activated during World War II. He went to Northern Ireland via a converted passenger ship. He served in Northern Ireland where his unit received training from the British. His unit trained for the initial invasion of Algiers. He had yellow fever and malaria and was treated on a ship in the Mediterranean. He rejoined his unit at Cassino. Further information about Bennett is found in an interview conducted by Doug Bekke in 2007 and transcribed. It is available for review at the Minnesota Military Museum. |
