NarrativeJohn D. Batson was mustered into the 4th Regiment in August 1864. The Regiment went on to participate in Sherman's March to the Sea from November 15 to December 10, 1864, finishing the war during the Carolinas Campaign from January to April 1865. The Regiment then participated in the Grand Review of the Armies on May 24, 1865 in Washington D.C. After the end of the war, John D. settled in Minnesota farming and serving as a minister throughout the area. Locations included: Fairwater (Wisconsin) and Minnesota locations within Dakota Co., Rice Co., and Hennepin Co. He is buried in Farmington, Minnesota. |
