Narrative

Basic Training-Camp Robinson, Arkansas, Medical Corps Training-Camp Hulen, Texas, attached to Company, 103 Battalion, MRTC 2nd Platoon. Promoted to SSgt, July 1942. Boarded US Transport Wakefield August 1942 for deployment to Europe. Special training in Scotland and England. Arrived St. Andras, Algeria, November 1942 and left Oran, Algeria October 1943. Served in Italy from October 1943 until September 1945. As a Medical NCO he drove an ambulance and supervised personnel of a medical unit in evacuation of casualties, care and treatment of sick and injured. Inspected kitchen and mess halls. Lectured and demonstrated medical techniques and procedures. Requisition medical supplies. Palmer returned to Terrace, Minnesota where he farmed and made church furniture at the Terrace Mill. He and his family moved to Minneapolis in 1959 where he worked for Minneapolis Van and Warehouse until 1979. Palmer passed away December 18, 1985 in Fridley, Minnesota. He is buried at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
